Sturdy and Good Looking
Iâm new to gardening and will admit I bought this on a whim without reading reviews. The price and size were right, so it made sense! After reading reviews, I was a little nervous about what I had gotten myself into because there were A LOT of negative videos and comments.I received the package earlier than expected and got right to work putting it together. There were a lot of pieces, but everything was labeled and pre drilled nicely. The directions were easy to follow but couldâve been put in a better order. (Common sense and looking ahead solves that issue) The wood is very light weight so itâs easy to put together on your own. I suggest having a power drill because there are a lot of screws. And yes, if you drill too hard into the slats the wood will split. Itâs cedar lolA review I watched suggested reinforcing it with brackets and I knew Iâd be putting rocks and lots of soil so I took that advice. I also added a clear coat of deck stain after putting it together for extra protection from elements. The wheels are very sturdy and roll super easily. They are easy to lock and unlock as well.My only negative about this garden is that they sent a wrench for the 4 bolts but it was way too big. Luckily I have the needed tools.I currently have 3 cubic yards of soil along with approximately 50 pounds of river rock. The garden is sturdy and rolls nicely on our apartment balcony. I highly recommend this rolling garden bed. Itâs perfect for smaller spaces or places where it needs moved into the sun frequently. Happy planting!

My herbs precariously perched on railings are cheering!
The fantastic cedar scent of this planter was a nice extra while putting this together inside. Instructions say 20 minutes lol. Itâs easy, but not that easy. If you have a drill for assisting with many screws, get it out: itâs worth it for a better build and avoiding blisters. Tips for placing this planter for novices like me⦠I didnât do the following in advance, so my first raised bed experience had some challenges created by the fact that this big, beautiful, well-made bed was just a tad too deep to place at the turn of my inherited, back ramp near the kitchen door where I originally intended to place it for easy access while cooking. I did some reading to figure out which of my desired plants have similar sun and water needs. I spent a few days (clouds) tracking my yardâs sun/water access to see if I had a good full-sun spot for my plants that also fit this large planter. Turns out the only viable spot for me was on soft ground that was not level. I figured a level foundation would be important for even draining which would prolong the integrity of the planter. Note: this planter is designed with narrow openings and 4 drilled holes on the bottom for good drainage options already built in. For extra caution, I ended up digging, leveling, placing cardboard (weed/grass control) and leveling again with sand and 12â square pavers in the corners to create the base I wanted. Then, after placing the empty bed on the level pavers (level to each other), I mulched around the bottom to further eliminate grass or weeds growing up through the slatted bottom shelf and to hide the pavers. Final step was filling the bed. Since my location is in the yard, I really didnât need the castors, but if placing on a patio, Iâd think the castors would be a plus. They are quality metal castors that can handle the weight of a full planter. I like the bottom shelf and will store needed tools and supplies in waterproof containers (sitting under the planter drainage slats and holes). Picture does not depict final waterproof storage.

Much better than anticipated 🙂 Updated after first season
10/31/2024 Update: Reduced to 4 stars. Lesson learned- if you are placing the planter on an asphalt driveway for extended periods, place wooden blocks (or something) under each caster otherwise the casters will sink into the driveway. Issue- It’s only been one season and we need better quality casters on this product. I have four casters ( two on each planter) that are rusted solid. One broke off while trying to move the planter. Plus, they are getting flat spots. Not sure if I want to replace the bad casters with the same or upgrade to larger all-weather casters. Disappointed in the casters for an outdoor item. May 2024: I purchased two thinking I may send the unopened one back if the product was cheaply made (as some on the reviews implied). But I was surprised by the quality of the product for the price and how sturdy it is too. When you consider the cost to buy all the lumber and assuming you have all the tools needed to craft the lumber plus the hardware, these planters are a great value. Instructions were easy to follow although the estimated â20 minâ assembly time is a bit silly considering the lower shelf has 56 screws by itself. Give yourself at least 45min for the first one you assemble and if you assemble a 2nd, 3rd, etc, you could get to a 20min assembly time. My time (and being tall, my low back) saver tip is once step 2 is completed, tip it on end and skip to Step 8. You can use the partially assembled unit as high surface if you donât have a large enough workspace (low back saver). Time Saver: Once there is a J panel attached on each end of shelf, for each additional J panel you only need to locate a pilot hole on each side of the J panel and affix the panel. Once all the remaining J panels are attached by two screws then you can set the rest of the screws in pilot holes (see pic) and just move one to the next rather than aligning one screw at a time. Once all the screws are sunk, then go back to step 3 and complete the remaining instructions.Other feedback: The casters are nice but need a very smooth surface to roll well once the bed is loaded with dirt. Slight larger, knobby casters would be an improvement for uneven terrain. I created sloped sides inside the box to direct the drainage to the drain holes. Rather than painting or staining, I used an inexpensive plastic drop cloth (creating holes in the plastic where the drain holes exist) as a moisture barrier under the fabric liner to save the untreated wood as the wood will not last long with constant exposure to moist soil for more than two seasons (or so I would think).
